FAQ

Answers You Need

Are you Ofsted registered and what experience do you have?

I am registered with Ofsted, and recieved a 'GOOD' rating on my last inspection.
I am also paediatric first aid trained, food safety inspected and insured.
I have worked in childcare my whole life, I started as an assistant with my mum age 15, before going to college to study Early years. I received my BTEC early years qualification and continued working with my mum for a number of years before starting my own childminding business in 2012.
I undertake courses regularly through the year to refresh my memory and also keep up with any changes, always learning new things.

What benefits are there for choosing a childminder over a nursery?

There are many benefits to choose a childminder over a nursery, not only can we be a little more flexible, but the children get many more opportunities to learn and explore, although we have a smaller group of children it gives us the chance to get out and explore every day life and experiences. We can go for many walks, farm visits, soft play centres etc. We also learn how to behave and participate in everyday activities such as shopping, eating out and caring for pets. The children get to build closer relationships with each other as there is only a small amount, and with it being me as the only adult who cares for them we get to build a lovely bond and learn to understand each other much better.
I am a home from home setting giving the children a comfortable space to learn and play.

What is the maximum number of children you can take care of at once?

I can care for a maximum of 6 children under the age of 8 years. I can also care for up to 12 children over the age of 8.

How will my child learn?

Just like a nursery/ school setting, childminders also follow the Early years foundation stage.
Each day is an observing opportunity, as I watch and play with the children I learn what the children can already do. using this I use the EYFS and my own knowledge to figure out what the child needs to learn next. Activities and daily play is then used to encourage these next steps, as we work up to preparing the children for school.

Do you visit any play groups?

Yes I do, we regularly go to a local weekly toddler group, a dance group and the pre-school age children attend a gymnastics class. we also meet with other local childminders.

Do you supply food?

I supply breakfast for children who arrive by 7.45 am. Hot lunches are available to those who wish to have them at an additional cost, however parents can also send a packed lunch if they prefer.

Can you care for my poorly child?

To keep all other children and my family safe I don't accept children who are sick, I ask that they stay at home.
Children with everyday coughs, cold and generally feeling under the weather are welcome to come as normal.
Children on medication are also welcome to attend.
